What is drop D tuning? I thought it is when you drop the low E to D.. but I was looking in a song book and it says drop D tuning 1 1/2 step and there is no D on the setup..

Drop D is the general name they give to a tuning where it originates at Drop D then you drop ALL the strings a step or whatever it is. Drop D itself is indeed where you drop the Low E to D, giving you D A D G B e

Tuning Drop D 1 1/2 steps down means you tune every string down 1 1/2 steps once you're in Drop D

what i'm looking at says Drop D tuning 1 1/2 steps
(low to high) B-F#-B-E-G#-C#

so would that mean Bb - F# -Bb - Eb - G# - C#

?

Well, if by "Drop D 1 1/2 step" you mean Drop D 1 1/2 step down, then you must be looking for Drop B tuning. Maybe.

Yeah, that's the tuning you're supposed to be in, you can either call it Drop D 1 1/2 steps, or you could just call it drop B.
