I just got an all tube B52 at 212 combo for $330, and I think It's awesome, except for the fact that the reverb doesn't work, and the dirty channel is just....ok.

So I guess I can run an overdrive through the clean right?
What do you suggest? I play all rock/pop punk, and have about $80, though I don't know if I should get distortion or overdrive.

Suggestions?

B-52s are alright if you ask me, there to fizzy, id have to say and hate to admit it but might aswell get a valveking, altough the cleans on the B-52 are alright and it would sound bomb with a good OD infront of it.

where do you live you might be able to find a Classic 30 around your area.

Used they go for about 300-400 its worth it.

If you can try to find a used Fender BJ there pretty good for what you want.

Baisicly any mild Overdriven amp is good for punk and rock and if you want to sound more edgy then just get an overdrive pedal infron of the amp and your set.

it makes good dynamics to have a amp with a good overdrive and then turn on an OD to sound all over the top and get in a good riff in and then go back to the natural overdrive of the amp and alternate to give your sound more layers. With a volume pedal its alot more fun you get more range of distortions and clean sounds.

Also if you can wait out and save up 500 bills for an AC15 that amp is so cruncy and smooth it was made for rock in general.

Get an overdrive and put it through the dirty channel.
It'll beef it up a bit.

Try turning the boost/volume to 10, and the gain to 0-3 ish,
and it'll enhance some of the amps natural distortion.

Just DON'T buy a distortion pedal, it'll totally take over the warm
sound of it being a tube amp.

P.S. Don't bother buying a new amp, B-52's can DEFINITELY handle pop-punk/rock,
especially with an OD pedal.

Ah, that's what I thought.
Are there any specific OD pedals you recommend?

Why would I go out and buy a new amp when I just bought one today?

This is a good one by BBE.

its a distortion but it can get a good range from light to mild to balls to the walls, also the EQ is really responsive.

So you're telling me to get 3 different amps, an overdrive, and a distortion?

How 'bout no?

The Boss SD-1 might be worth a look. I've seen it stacked with the amp drive in one or two demos and I got to try it today over the dirt channel of a classic 50. Added some nice warm drive and as a boost it could give the amp a nice edge with out taking over the tone of the amp too much.

The DigiTech Bad Monkey is a great overdrive, probably the best one in your price range.
