Ugh, this has been annoying me.

I heard it mainly in a few Slash solos, but I'm sure millions of other people use it. The best one I can think of is in Used to Love her. Just after Axl says "take it for what it is" in the second solo, Slash plays a reasonably fast lick that seems to cross the fretboard. It also appears in "For a Brother" by VR.

I would try and work it out, but I can't really work out solos that fast, and there are no tabs.

Cheers

Thanks for the link ^^

Transcribed for ya; I'm not so good in rhythmic tabbing, but I think you can pick the rhythm up by ear.

Here's a recording of the tabbed part which I Think you mean;

(hard) Left (Panned) speaker = original song/solo
Hard) Right (Panned) speaker = my solo over it (tabbed part below)

e|------------------------------|---------------------------------|
B|------------------------------|-----------------6-6-----7-7p6---|
G|------------------------------|-6-6-----8-8p6-------8p6-------8-|
D|------------------6---8p6---6-|-----8p6-------8-----------------|
A|----4--6p4---4-/8---8-----8---|---------------------------------|
E|-/6--6-----6------------------|---------------------------------|

e|----------------(triplet)--------------|------------------------|
B|-9-9p6--7-7p6----(6h7p6)--6-------6-9--|------------------------|

D|---------------------------------------|------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------|------------------------|

And here's the country/pedal steel style lick right after that. You hold the bend on the 9th fret b-string while u pick the 9th fretted notes on the e-string.

Btw - was that in Standard or Eb?

Quote by Freepower
It's right to the left of the strings in the tab.

(heh, right to the left... I mean, it's directly to the left side of the tab)

This.

Standard

It's 99% of the time written on the left side (E, A, D, G, B, e)

Wow, I'm a tool

I'll just transpose it. Out of interest, how long did it take you to work it out? I'm still having trouble mastering it - when I play it slowly, I can't recognise it, and when I play along to the CD, it sounds alright, but it's a bit drowned. When I try and play it alone, it sounds meh. Damn lick!

To be honest, tabbing it out took longer then figuring it out. If I can technically play it, I have to listen 3 or 4 times max to be able to play it. This lick I listened once to figure the deal out and 2nd time to check and touch it up.

This is usually the case, which is why I can't be bothered to contribute tabs to UG. If people come out of the pit and come here, I will tab from time to time, as long as it isn't to much to tab.

A lick, chord progression or melody is never problem, but I can't be bothered tabbing a whole song.

I need to listen once to something and then I can figure it out (unless it's all chromatics, cause those really **** with my ear)

I have like a visualisaiton in my head of the fretboard. If I hear something I can see the frets in my mind and know what to play.

Best to compare it with is when someone says something to you, and you can write it down (visualise the sentence in ur head).
