So I'm rough cutting my Inlays out at the moment, It's white mother of pearl.
However, i accidentally managed to get a small scratch in one of them. It's barely noticeable, but I'll always know it's there, and it'll drive me nutssss.
can i buff this out or something? any ideas?

or do i need to start over? i got plenty of the stuff...

I think it'll stain, but try Brasso or a similar metal cleaning product, its slightly abrasive. But as I say, I've only cleaned an ipod screen with it, so try it on the back first. Or something.

I would try buffing it out if you have a lot of extra to work with.

alright, ill try it on a spare piece. I'm also thinking about wet sanding it down, which i'll also try on a scrap.

Yes, wetsanding with very high grit is likely to yield some results.

You're welcome Bobby.

What shape are these inlays, and what fretboard are they going into?

wait im confused if ur just rough cutting them it means ur not in wood yet meaning u havent routed the slots yet so cant u just make the route for the scratched one a lil shallower and then sand out the scratch when ur sandin down the rest of the inlays to the board?
#13
Yeah Bobby, once you get it all sorted out some pics would be killer!

Small scratches usually dissapear when you sand down the inlay after gluing it in. If it doesn't sand out it'll still probably disapear when you finish over it (if it's getting finished) or oil it if it's something like a fretboard.

If it's a large scratch then you are stuck sanding it out or trying to fill it with superglue
Not taking any online orders.

Is the fretboard un radiused?

If you are going to glue the inlays in and then radius the entie fretboard and inlays I wouldnt worry about it, because as you progress through grits during radiusing the inlays will have all the scratches taken out of them by the time you get to 2000 grit or w.e yu are going to.

If it is a deep gouge that is unlikely to be radiussed out then think about using re cutting the inlay
