and this is what i found courtesy of guitar center:

the flipside said something like this:

Fender's newest series appeals to musicians seeking the comfortable vibe of a well-loved axe that's seen a lot of hard miles, without the steep price tag of a collectible. Road Worn instruments are skillfully aged using techniques invented in the Fender Custom Shop where they've been building distressed instruments for years. But unlike those handcrafted guitars that carry a hefty price tag, the new Fender Road Worn Series instruments are offered at prices easily accessible to working musicians.

and so i started thinking, didnt they try this marketing ploy once, and didnt it end in epic fail then too?

dont get me wrong, i love my telecaster and all, but what the hell fender?

thoughts?

Adamonia, I completely agree with every single word you just said.

I think they look quite smart to be honest, I don't like people who's guitars reflect light so much so that it dazzles the crowd.

Gibson does it (or rather keeps doing it), and people still seem to buy their "ready-worn" guitars... No idea why though.

I saw the thread title and I thought it was going to be a story about how you went out to get the mail and were attacked by a group of Columbian drug lords, then defeated all of them in a knife fight.

Shame.

Why would I pay someone to beat up a guitar when I can do it myself
No means maybe

it's really just trying to make more options to move more units to lower prices so that the profit margin can be lower while still generating the same revenue, or possibly an even greater revenue.

People now feel the need to buy a new fender guitar?

Its like buying a used condom, it seemed a good idea at the time, but afterwards u realised its just a mess!
"You're a twat!"- That dude in morrisons

i think the whole idea of a worn guitar is too add some soul and uniqueness to it, its imperfections make it yours and reflect your experiances with it

so il stick with mine becomming worn on its own and making its own story

I don't see how it would be a good idea in the first place.

I think paying more for something beat up is ridiculous. If you like the look buy a new one for cheap and sand it down or something.

That's ****ing retarded. Old stuff looks cool because they display their age. If it looks old but isn't, it's pathetic.

Properly worn guitars can look even better than they were originally. However, they do have to be naturally worn. You just can't get the same effect.
