im saving up for a new computer, but in the mean time im going to upgrade the ram in my computer to hold me over. i have 4 slots total, with 2 slots filled with 256mb sticks. im gonna add another gig just to make everything run smoother.
my question is this:
would a 1gb stick be better than 2x 512mb sticks? i have room for the two sticks, and on newegg they are priced within $1 of each other so price is not a difference.
which should i get?

if you are set up for Dual Channel then you would want the two 512 sticks, if not then it doesn't matter.

4x1gbs.

that would be a waste unless he's using a 64 bit processor.

I've never tried running a dual channel setup with the two sets of RAM not being the same, I'm pretty sure it would cause problems.
