What is the best guitar I can get for $500? I want to be able to play rock, heavy rock, and metal on it. I want the stock pickups to be as good as I can get without having to swap them out. I'd perfer if there wasn't a floyd rose on it, but if the guitar has either that, a whammy bar, or a Bigsby and its cool post it anyways. My amp is a very nice Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue 40w tube amp. Ok, so thanks for the help.

I feel like I link this thing too much...

But anyway, as long as you don't need 22+ frets, this thing is near-unbeatable IMO; single-coils for lower-gain stuff, humbucker for heavier stuff. Plus now that it has coil-tap, you can get the quack of position four.

I'd go for the Epi one just because Korina is a godly wood.

I'd say the Jackson or the BC Rich. The Jackson has an alder body, Seymour Duncan (designed) pickups, Floyd Rose, nice neck, and sweet body. The BC Rich has a nice Nato body, I.T. tech (like a neck through guitar for cheap), and a string-through bridge (if you don't want a floyd).

Can't go wrong with either of those.

You're not going to get anything close to even hard rock with that amp. Even with a pedal, it's not voiced for it.

Basswood (assuming it's at least halfway decent basswood) is one of - if not the - best woods for playing metal. Punchy definition and good tonal balance with just a little more low-end is exactly what many metal players want, and basswood is exactly that.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.

I second the Epiphone... Korina IS a godly wood. My Explorer pwns, I wouldn't trade it for a Gibson.

That's wrong "Basswood is a soft wood with tight grains. Its relatively inexpensive of all the usual guitar woods, and it’s easy on router bits in the factory, easy to sand, and easy to seal and finish. The softness of basswood means that sharp highs are dampened and smoothened. That helps offset the tinny sound associated with knife edged tremolo contacts. The softness also fosters a weaker low end."
