Ok, so I stoped by Guitar Center a couple days ago (don't do this often, too far away) and I was looking at amps.

An amp that really caught my eye was a Raven model amp. The RG200 combo. I played it and it sounded better than any amp I've ever played (handling my intense originality). But because I've never heard of this amp (outside of GW magazine), I don't know how good it actually is (durability ect.).

Anybody who has ever played this amp, please give me your review on it. So as to compare it to the Line 6 head and stack I was looking at.

Thanks,

Both of the amps you are looking at are CRAP

if you want to buy an amp ask UG first we will help you
first answer these questions
Budget?
Genre you play ?
specific band?
Bedroom or Gig?
Tube or SS?

BTW you dont need a half stack

It hasnt been out long enough to know how reliable they are. But as they are pretty much the same as the other amps in its class spider, MG, flexwave, frontman. Expect it to crap out just after the warranty expires. Not sure what your comparing it to to say it sounded better than any other amp you have ever heard.

I'm just looking for something good, doesn't matter how much it costs right now...I'll save or if it's a tube or not.
My "GENRE" can't really be classified...kind of unique...but just generally classified would be Metal. I just thought that Raven sounded good because of the output and the bass I could put in that thing (I like a good heavy bassy guitar sound) But I want something with WAY too much distortion. I haven't played anything that I didn't want to up the distortion.

Would use for personal use (unless I leave it at the drummers house) rehersal, and gigs.

Band? Would be used in ExplodeR (band I do lead guitar1/lead vocals in)

I was being slightly sarcastic...but it sounded pretty good. I wanted a VOX...but it wasn't powerful enough. And then I got a Line 6 Spider 3 (15 watt, basically use it as a head, hahaha.) and It had punch to it...but I wanted alot more to use. I'm just looking for something with Overdone distortion (I always want more with what I've tried...) and can dish out powerful punch. (bass wise, I like bassy guitar sounds)

A vox wouldnt do your supposedly "unique" version of metal from my experiences (assuming metal in general).
Where do you live generally so we know if you have a used amp market or not?
Specific budget?

Try out:

B52
Used 5150
Randall something or another, 50 watter something, it gets recommended alot around here
Valvekings (<- I dont like them, make your own opinions)
Krank (Jr. something I think, sorry havent memorized many metal amp names)

I doubt there's anything like that. I live in Seminole County, Florida.
I saw the B52, but didn't try it =/ There wasn't that much at Guitar Center, and there isn't that much at the Sam Ash. There is a bunch of each kind of amp they have (like 5 of each kind put around...and there were like 6 amps last time I went)

^yeah, I'd look at those too

I've played the Raven a couple of times and I think I'd rather have a Spider.

I'm not sure what your budget is or what kinds of genres you play but I would be looking at these first before buying a Raven. There was 5150 head for $700 I think.

Laney VC50 212 $450 (rare in states - pretty yummy)

Do you want more of a British or American punch?

^^Agreed, we also need to know your budget and such.

solution:

good tube amp + distortion pedal + od pedal = ftw

if that doesn't work try this

good tube amp + distortion pedal + distortion pedal + od pedal + boost pedal = craziness

but we still don't know your budget or genres which are the 2 most important things.

The SuperChamp and Flextone can handle most genres at a fair price.

I've got slightly over $500 right now...but I'll be getting around $300 more by the end of January.
Just throw it into "METAL" Genre I guess. Cuz the band I'm in would fit well with classic Thrash. (Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Overkill, Annihilator ect.) We're heavier and I play alot more technically than most guitarists I know. But yeah.

Geeze, with those I'd need to have one of those noise reduction kind of petals, hahaha.

^no reason to quadruple post

I'd say save up until the end of January like you said and keep your eyes pealed to craigslist for a used 5150/6505/XXX/Ultra/Flextone

..

Sorry, these thread things have aways kind of confused me. That's why I didn't make an account earlier.

tbh, you need to learn to not use tons of distortion. otherwise, you'll never know what true good tone is, and your playing will sound all covered up in gain and will sound like crap. as for which amp to get, stay away from ravens. look used and try to find a 5150/6505/Ultra/XXX like the other guy said. they shouldnt run too much over 500 bucks if you look hard enough

See, that's what is weird about me. I LOVE clean and what-not. I've written ballads and have recorded them. When my band plays gigs...eveyone knows 1 of our ballads (SOULESS). There is absolutely NO distortion in that song...but it IS heavier than power ballads (though I love 'em), but isn't distorted like Thrash ballads (Love 'em too).
Goes along with my unique like style...and shows that I am not the typical guy in a metal band. And will show influences in ways.
