I'm mainly a rock/punk bassist, but lately have realised that most of you guys on the bass forums play other genres like jazz/blues/funk. I really have no idea what these genres consist of bass-wise, but I am interested in learning some of these styles, because frankly, I am on a skill plateau, and need to improve my musical diversity.

I've looked at the 'Bass songs to learn' thread, but I have no ideas which artists on there play these styles. Can anyone reccomend any good songs for someone only just getting into these genres? Thanks

Jamiroquai - Canned Heat, Runaway.
Commodores - Brick house.

Sly and the family stone, Parliament, Funkadelic.. there is quite a few things. Learn some Jaco Pastorius.

if you're more into rock and havent checked out any red hot chili peppers then you need to be lit on fire and raped by an bear. bootsy collins and the parliament funkadelic stuff is great too. then reggae basslines are always fun. check out some sublime, bob marley, slightly stoopid for some stuff like that.
