+1, I really like metallica. Also, the intro solo in "One" is easy to learn. And because of *cough* Guitar Hero III people will recognize the song.
Current gear ::

Ibanez BTB205 // 5 string bass, active pickups
Epiphone LP Special II // Lower end Epiphone Les Paul
Warwick Blue Cab 15 // My bass amp, which I use for my guitar :P
Yamaha C40 // My mediocre classic acoustic

The most impressive I've ever heard is April Sky, Morning Star, Beyond the Door, and Prelude/Into The Future off of Vinnie Moore's Time Odyssey. The most melodic neo-classical you'll ever hear. He hasn't gotten the fame he deserves. Plus Yngwie's Evil Eye, I love that song.

I agree on all the metallica stuff, especially Fade to Black. The intro to fade to black is very easy to learn, but its so amazing sounding. Really impresses the non-guitar folks.

Yeah, but everyone's heard it a billion times.

Anything that sounds really good. To me, I'd rather hear an awesome sounding solo with really good feel than a super skillful shred fest. Something like Tangerine by Led Zeppelin, or Intro solo to Cemetery gates by Pantera come to mind.

I feel bad looking at porn simply because of the ol' story that a lot of those girls were molested as children, But I've never heard of midgets being molested, so it doesn't matter to me anymore, as that's the only kind of porn I watch.

mama i'm coming home - ozzy

i think any slow feel solo is good. people dont seem to like shreddy stuff. they think it's annoying and loud and pointless. any tap solo i guess is cool. tapping is easy and looks super cool. i think it looked cooler than sweeping until i found out what sweeping was.

Seize the Day, avenged sevenfold.

Its a solo that has a lot of bends and require you to have a lot of expression when you play, but its an awesome solo, plus its nice and slow, so it shouldnt be too hard. Just add a lot of vibratos and slides, but whatever you do, focus on the pinch harmonic LAST, its the least important part of the solo compared to the rest you have to do.

Megadeth - Tornado of Souls

He said not too hard. The ending of that solo is killer

Also crazy train sounds impressive but isn't too hard.

Iron Maiden - Strange World. Both solos, they both sound great and aren't fast.
Pearl Jam - Alive. I didn't think this was particularly hard, majority is pentatonic and not many fast parts. Mike McCready underrated.
Eagles - Hotel California. Ok people are probably getting sick of this one, but it's still a great solo(s) and a must for any player to know.

Beyond This Life - Dream Theater

If you can't play this, you suck.

EDIT: ****, misread the thread.

Well, BOTL has a good solo anyway. >_>

Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins

Any of the solos off their Mellon Collie album.

It's hard to get the exact sound with all the effects etc... but even just some simple distortion (a big muff) and phase can really work wonders.

I've found Billy's solos to really help you learn upto and advanced level.

Pink Floyd - Time (Or 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond pt. 1-5')
