I searched and couldn't find anything on this, so I made a thread.

I'm short on space and money. I found the Orange Tiny Terror. My question; is this thing ONLY an amp head, or can it by itself be a tiny amp? I seem to find things that make it seem mostly an amp head, but I also see some things that indicate it could be a standalone amp as well. Confusing, so I thought I'd seek some clarification.

There's a combo version as well, but I'm pretty sure the tiny terror needs a cab I'm afraid

Yikes, the combo is expensive, but the size would be perfect. I guess I better start saving. Thanks everyone!

what are your needs?

budget?
playing styles?
location?
are you gigging?

the likelyhood is that there is something suited to you for half the price

Going to a college which only gives me very small dorm rooms. Something to practice with that in the room that could also stand up to playing with others, but it wouldn't have to be a gigging amp. I play a lot of styles (but a good, thick lead tone a la Satch or Gilbert is most important to me), so I like a versatile amp, or at least one that can take pedals well.

Budget is tricky because of the cost of college. Ideally under $400, though if I absolutely have to go higher, I'd be willing to.

theres the obligatory tube amp recommendation but its tricky to get decent lead tones in a small tube amp.

i'd be tempted to look at SS/modelling amps if volume is an issue. everyone's bumming the peavey vypyrs atm but i have no idea if theyre any good =/

if i were you i'd try and test that out and see if its ok at quiet volumes.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll bookmark those and see if I can try them out.
