Does anyone own this micro stack by Marshall? I'm on a very tight budget (around $350) and found this and only heard good things, but they were on site that sold them. Consumer reports from 1 day of playing. How does it sound overtime? I play from progressive rock to heavy metal. Any other suggestions? Would be used for small gigging and home practice.

Ibanez TS9 30th Anniv

It sucks. Badly.

For $350 you could-for example-get a used Peavey Ultra and have $30 left for beer.
I'm not cool.

For $350 you're just outside a B-52 AT-112 at Guitar Center / Musician's Friend - only $10 more.

EDIT: As for the Marshall, when you buy it, you'll love it, but over time will grow to resent it. Its distortion is awful (oft compared to a box of bees here on UG) but the cleans are passable for jazz. They're not good by any means, though.

Don't get it.
It probably will die over time (once the warranty is up of course), too.

Aren't those B52 amps on sale still?

No. Of course it will have some good reviews, people who just try amps for the first time and see the supposed holy grail "gold" plated Marshall and its a stack will be very biased. Almost as biased as I am against them...

MG15 combo amps arent as bad as many people say. As a practice amp, a small SS combo at $100-$150 like the MG isnt just ****, its not suberb however.

The micro stack is obviously not a small combo amp and I think anything bigger than 15 watts with the MG logo on it isnt worth the money.

Recommended amps to TRY:
Peavey Vypyr
Roland Cube, and dont get the microcube, as bad as the amp this thread is about
if you think the Line 6 Spider 15 watt isnt bad, I would say get it if its on sale or something

ONLY GET A SPIDER IF YOU PLAY HIGH GAIN ONLY, no larger than 15 or 30 watts, if they have a 30 watt model that is
DONT GET:
the MG micro stack or anything larger
Line 6 spider III any bigger than 15 watts

Fine, buy me a beer for the good advice!

My point was, for $350 you could get a GOOD amp.

Assuming You're in the US, try a:
-new B-52 AT
-used Peavey Ultra
-new/used Peavey Vypyr

Also, you can sometimes find a good Carvin in the price range.
I'm not cool.

Dare I say Valveking? I see the 112's go for $225-$260 on the used sites which leaves room for a pedal or so.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.
#11
You are better off with an MG15 Combo, it is cheaper.

EDIT: My bad I thought you still wanted a low-wattage MG.

If you want a more powerful amp, a b-52 or a Valveking would be good for that price range.

its decent
but a B-52, vypyr, cube, vox valvetronix, orange TT,blackheart, crate v series (and other amps in the MG's price range) will DESTROY any MG

BTW stop RECOMMENDING MGs TO BEGINNERS

Going from a 15w Frontman to a 15w MG is not much of an upgrade. Especially for $350.

I would stretch and get that B52.

I checked your local craigslist (knoxville, tn) and didn't see much....until

i saw this......

Peavey XXX Combo $450

^Nice find 311. TN sites usually yield pretty good gear.

Holy Crap that is a good deal. Something i forgot to put earlier (ridicule if you must) i'm banking on lower wattage since i'm going tube so i can crank it up and get that true tube tone.

Your getting tube tone at lower volumes the amp has preamp tubes for this reason. You just not getting power tube saturation which is something your going to want to avoid anyway playing metal. The more wattage/headroom the better for metal.

why on earth did you post that?

seriously.

The TS has come to us asking for help and does not resemble the dude (dudette) in that thread at all.

Now try something constructive.

Edit: I agree with IbanezPsycho and I've played the head version. You can play it at lower volumes and then he'll have plenty for his gigs.

Well it should last quite a bit longer than that. Some inner components may crap over time but most are replaceable especially since the amp is still in production.

And you are NOT our only retard. Not by a long shot friend.

TS - beg, borrow, don't steal, but find a way to that XXX. Maybe play your amp at the local train station with a hat laying in front of you. Wear blind glasses, whatever it takes.

MGs have okay cleans, but not so hot OD. If it's just for practice, that's fine, but don't go wasting your $$ on a 100 watt half-stack for gigging, 15-30 watts for practice are okay though.

See if your guitar center has a B52 AT 212. It's a 100W, 2 speaker tube amp, and has recently been discontinued or something, so I was able to get mine a couple days ago for $350, including tax.
