Hey man, I'm glad to see that you're on board!

I don't think I'll finish in times either, my parts and wood supplier is swanmped with work, which I understand.

This is going to be pretty amazing if it all turns out.

Thanks.
I dont know how good the swirls gonna be, I have to get some stuff for it so I can practice heaps. Prettymuch whenever I'm not routing, cutting etc I'll be swirling random objects

Yeah, it was. It's cheaper than it would have cost to get a new one, plus it had the nut and all the other stuff too. It looks like its almost never been used, near mint condition.

Did someone say swirled chairs? I'd buy three.

^I cant post any more, I haven't got any of the wood yet. I ordered it from Ormsby, still waiting for it to arrive.

Hey Phil, I'm really glad you're doing this.

Let me say, I don't expect either of the two participants (you and myself) to really finish on time, or for there to be an actual competition. But at least we'll try .

I am very happy that we have a new builder joing our ranks, and I hope you have fun.

I'd been planning to build a guitar for a while actually. Its really more cost effective especially since I'm in Australia. This build is going to cost about AU$1000 +/- 200. The most similar guitar I could get for that much in Australia, new, would be an RG350DX. Big difference.

This isn't the only build I have planned either. For woodwork this year I'm making another RG, except its going to be a hardtail, African mahogany body, ebony fretboard, and a flame maple top, natural finish.

YAY SWIRLS!
Been doing a few. They're in order from earliest to latest (L-R). The first 2 are without borax, the third had the borax in just before the paint, the last (the best one) had the borax in the water a few days before I swirled it. Theres one little run in the orange (paint was a bit too thick, a little more borax in the water should fix that.
I'm going with the last one for colours too. Blue/Black/Orange FTW!!

Close up of the best one

Ottar was doing it, but neither of us got our stuff in time. And unless i can somehow build it tomorrow, i wont have it done in time either.
I was going to build it anyway, this was just an excuse to get it done

I do like the last swirl, but I also like the first one a bit. It's more random looking, whereas the last one seems very uniform in the fact that it looks like a sine wave.

It was random! It isn't really an actual swirl. I just got the paint and I was testing to see if it would work. I had another brand of model paint that started to get a skin on the water, and wouldn't swirl. I went back to the shop and got some good ones and just tipped a bit in, then put the ply in, I didn't really try to swirl it too much.
The one I do on the guitar wont be quite so busy.
