Does anybody know people who use distortion on a bass?

I have never heard anyone use it, I want to hear some examples.

Nick olivirey (spelt something like that) from Kyuss does it.
And so does Lemmy.

Cliff Burton from Metallica was pretty well known for using distortion. Check out Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) and For Whom the Bell Tolls. I can't really think of any others that are more modern than him...

No offence to bass players but all basses sound the same to me... over-driven or not

lots and lot of people do, it might be more subtle, when used it often sounds like a touch to give it a grind to it, not a heavy distortion.

Usually i put on a hint of overdrive to my recordings to define the tone in parts where just the bass plays

Compare Lemmy to Geddy Lee and tell me they sound the same. then you can say that.

Not totally sure, but did Geddy use it during the Moving Pictures era? It might just be the Rickenbacker sound, but I'm not sure.

Joe principe from Rise Against uses amp clean and 1 distortion at the same time

Lemmy also uses marshall guitar amps, which he cranks. So it's not as much overdrive as natural tube breakup

fat mike uses overdrive here and there. Like in Bottles to the ground, separation of church and skate, reeko..ect

Flea uses fuzz and overdrive occasionally

That's because you're a 13 year old who only focuses on guitars. I bet most people can't tell the difference between your voice and your mother's.

But that also means you link through the hope page and will never come back here.

Not sure if anyone has said Timmy C yet from Rage Against The Machine, Les Claypool of course uses some. The guy from A Life Once Lost, I can't remember his name. He uses the three programable thing from Sansamp, but he also plays a Gibson Thunderbird, so it still sounds fairly crappy anyways.

40 posts a page is far better.

On topic, check out and stoner metal band, like Electric Wizard. Not a fan of the music myself, but damn the bass sounds good.
