I'm in dire need of a new amp, i currently have a line 6 spider 3 75w and its starting to break down.
I need an amp mostly for metal (high gain and high volume) in the 600 dollar range and a good clean tone as well. preferably all tube

please and thanks

any recommendations?

oh and i've been leaning tword a valveking, but I dont know about any of their competition or anything

Peavey Vypyr combo. 60 or 120 watts with the tube power-amp. Modeling. You should be able to get the sounds you're looking for out of that with enough power to blast yourself through a wall.

what kind of metal?

do you gig?

are you handy with tools, soldering iron and messing with things?

the suggestions so far are about it - so you are going to have to listen to clips, take more opinions and play these for yourself. Add the B-52 AT112 60w to your list as well. It's only $370 right now but that won't last long. Might be at Guitar Center only.

your other option is to look at used gear. You could probably score a 5150 or XXX in the $600 range. What is your closest major city?

i am very handy with tools

Bugera 6262 or 333xl or B-52 AT60 are worth trying out. But if you search some used sites you could score a nice used mesa or similar for that cash. What major city do you live near? (Not stalking you - just trying to help you find a great amp used at that price.)
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Randall RG50TC or B-52 AT112

I heard there is uranium gas in the tubes. So you could easily make a little nuclear blast. If i were you, i wouldn't want to start the World War III.

I kind of have to agree with the Randall RG50TC suggestion. I had an opportunity to mess with one a couple of weeks ago and it was quite impressive, especially considering the price point.
ESP LTD EC-256 and a Fender Deluxe VM

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/msg/977716702.html Randall RG50tc, asking $350...
http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/msg/978685760.html Spider VALVE, asking $500 (This is the good spider).
http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/msg/978172238.html JMP 50 watt combo - no price so who knows but worth a call. May need some help from a pedal to hit the heavier stuff you play - but jesus - great amp.
http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/msg/976464179.html JTM-30 watt combo, asking $599. Again - may need pedal help for the heavier stuff.

There are some mesa's but nothing below about $800 - keep trolling craigslist and see what pops.

you can find Bugera's on americanmusical.com under Guitars.

you can find craigslist stuff by going to craigslist.org - find your city/location - click Musical Instruments - and then I usually type in 'amp' in Search bar.

They aren't in production anymore. For your budget, a new Boogie isn't happening- which is partially why I made the suggestion that I did.

Best of luck

I'm not fond of the XXL, but the JVM is a very versatile Marshall amp. Gorgeous Clean channel and MANY GREAT crunch, searing lead tones in that box. NOT the greatest build quality, but a GREAT sounding amp, IMO.
