Mostly metal and some hard rock

Favorite bands/artists include: Trivium, Death, Annihilator, Pantera, Metallica, John Petrucci, Dream Theatre, Satch, Paul Gilbert, Children of Bodom.

Please understand that I'm completely ignorant to what combos would sound good lol. Only thought of the passive emg 81's because i just dislike active pups.

There is no passive EMG81. If you like the sound of EMG81s, you like the sound of active pick-ups.

Just putting this out there, consider EMG-HA neck, EMG-81 bridge.
No gods, no countries, no masters.
More guitar, less Ultimate-Guitar.

Hmmm idk.

I picked out the Air Norton because I loved the sound John Petrucci was getting out of it.

Are you sure you don't mean the EMG HZ? (Which is a passive pickup)

If so, then you shouldn't have any trouble.
- Gibson Flying V 120 #1 (White)
- Gibson Flying V 120 #2 (Cherry)
- Gibson SG Standard ('61 style)
- Jackson DK2M

- ENGL Fireball 60
- Avatar 4x12

- Many pedals, plus other stuff

Last I checked, Petrucci was playing Dimarzio D Sonics. Then again I never really pay attention to him.

Yeah I think that might've been the one.

Mixing a passive and an active is asking for trouble. Very complex wiring required.

Hmm...

Dammit.

Well I'd like to have my bridge pickup as some sort of emg for that raw metalness lol.

But I'd like to have something like a Air Norton in the neck. I can't think of an adjective for the sound it has but I think you have an idea.

Any combo suggestions?

You loved the tone he was getting out of his $10,000+ dollar rig not his $100 pickups...

Air norton in the neck and Dimarzio D-activator in the bridge,
It's supposed to sound like an active pick up

I second that. If you ever watch the YouTube video of his rig tour, you'll know why he sound so impressive.
mmmmmmhmmm

That's exactly what I've been trying to say.
