Ever since I built my guitar, about 5 years ago, my buddy Jim has wanted me to make him a wolf guitar (he loves wolves). I told him that when I was good enough, that I would make the guitar for him. Well the time has come for the Lupine Plectrus (wolf guitar) **Thanks AU79 XY**

Specs:
Mahogany body shaped like a wolf's head (carved)
Maple neck with bloodwood fingerboard
Man to wolf inlays (like on the James Hetfield Explorer)
2 single coil emgs and a emg 81 at the bridge, complete with mid boost

The inlays may light up, I have to ask if he wants that and if so what color.
Here are some pics of my current progress.

And for those of you who dont know what kind of inlays Im talking about.

This has got to be one of the most radical builds ever to grace UG.

I look forward to seeing this.

What do you have planned for the finish?

Dude this is the most epic thing I've seen inside this forum (except for maybe that Goomba guitar). Congrats

I personally think this looks more epic than the goomba guitar! :O

Wow, I never expected this kind of response. Thanks guys.

This is about 10-12 hours right now, and I still have a lot of carving and sanding to go. Plus I haven't even started the fingerboard yet. This may take awhile

The original plan was to paint the whole thing, but I just finished a mahogany guitar with an oil finish and really liked how it came out. (https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=931520) So, I gonna try and convice my friend to let me keep it natural and just use paint to accent certain parts. (i.e. red eyes, white teeth, etc)

I will keep you posted on my progress.

Ive never worked with Mahogany before, but if you could use a colored grain filler before the oil finish, it would be pretty bitching. Like the wolves hair. Just be careful with the paint.

This is ****in epic though, dude.

Wow, you have a real talent for spacial perception. That is some incredible carving sir! I like the idea of the colored grain fill to make it look like hair.

Another idea similar to that would be to stain the whole thing black, and then sand the thing "incompletely", as in leaving black stain in the crevices and such, thus adding a really classy contrast effect to emphasize all the work you've done craving.

that **** is amazing!!!! great job and carving the body i wish i had at least a tenth of the skills u have... keep us posted on the progress! also maybe you can add some kind of inlay onto the body for the eye. like a black gem or something. thats my two cents, it might make it look worse..
#23
okay, I can see it now and that is SWEET! Very well carved. also, +1 on the eye gem idea

I like the gem idea for the eye, I am gonna have to look into that.

And, just so you are all aware, this is my first time carving anything more complicated then an arch top.

What kind of bridge are you putting on it? And how? Looks like it's gonna be difficult...

I vote hardtail. Seems like it would be best in this situation.

Or String thru TOM.

Glad to see you figured it out that its not lupus :-p

I think you should do what lumberjack said with the black stain, but somehow include some white and grey.
#31
i looked at it again and i read that u want to put an EMG 81 in the bridge, and then this became the ultimate dream guitar..... How is it going? What did you decide for the drying process?
#32
Holy balls that is funky. Theme guitars aren't my thing, but holy Jesus in a manger, that is some sweet work.

Hey guys,
Sorry for a lack of updates. I wasn't feeling well this weekend so i didn't work on it. I'll have some more pics up for you by the end of the weekend, at the latest.
#35
So heres an update for you. I finished carving the guitar and started sanding. I also started working on the neck, the headstock is supposed to look like a bite has been taken out of it (still got a little work to do). And there has been a change on the inlays. Instead of the wolf to man (I think it would be a little too much on this guitar) I am gonna put black paw prints instead of dots and an accent piece at the 12th. The actual design of the 12th accent has yet to be decided.

So here are some pics:

I also really screwed up the fingerboard and had to buy a new piece. I havent cut it to size yet. I was hopeing to get more done this weekend but saturday i went to the metallica concert in philly and sunday i recovered.

Perfect timing for the new 'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans' movie!!!

I dont know if I would ever play a guitar like that, but I certainly wish I had the wood carving skills that you do!!!
