Would it be worth it to change my EMG's in my ESP to bareknuckle pickups? (emg 81-60)
What would i have to change? volume controls, ect

Would it be best to get a local luthier I know to do it?

And which ones would be the best for thrash metal, with good lead and clean sounds?

Thanks everyone.

Dust man, are you any good with wiring? 'cause you need to change the pots, the caps, take out the battery clip from the circuit, and get a mono jack. You'll need a long drill bit to do some drilling for grounds too.
Anyway, I'd do a War Pig bridge, maybe a painkiller. A riff raff in the neck.

Im not, but my dad is.
It seems like alot of work, so when I have it set up again, I could have the pickups put in too.
Which Warpig? as theres one that has alot higher output isn't there?

Well, I intend to do this eventually and switch out EMG's (not on an ESP, but still) and replace them with BK Nailbombs, though you may prefer the Warpig. I prefer the cleans of the Nailbomb though.

And I definitely prefer them to EMGs, as not only do you not need to spend a small fortune in batteries, but you also get a consistent output from them where as the EMG's will weaken in output as the batteries slowly drain. I also just prefer the sound of the Nailbomb though, although I guess your combination of EMG's isn't as common as the 81/85 everyone else seems to have.

If you call up the BK shop, you can actually speak to them for advice and they will be able to help you know what you're after (even if it is just to stick with your EMGs), I know of a few people who have done so

As for the controls, it all depends on your soldering skills to be honest - I know I've never messed around with EMG's but I get stuff like this done for free (mate's dad owns a music shop). I'd suggest you get a local music tech to help you though!
Hey, look. Sigs are back.

Not entirely sure. Also, that quote in your sig is FTW... Starting at 11 FTW!

Nope, you can get any of their covers for any of the pickps, except the warpig one pictured is warpig only (as the others don't use the allen bolts in their design) and I think there's a custom one for the nailbomb that I want

If you go to their site and click on the Shop (assuming this hasn't changed since I last looked...I'll check in a min ) you should be able to find all the options.

my god those are ugly.

Look at WCR as well if you're in the USA, they have a few high output humbuckers which are supposedly pretty good. Their Ironman set (I assume it's kind of like the BKP Warpig set) won some kind of award or something. I've tried a few BKs, they're ok, pretty good, but I wouldn't pay the price they run new.

Ahh damn, maybe I could get the neck and bridge uncovered then.
Which warpig is the better one? as theres different magnets in them.

Anymore recommendations for the neck pickup?

Nah, Im in the UK. I've heard people raving about how good the BK's are, so I'm pretty determined to have a set.

No offense, but WCR aren't even in the same league as BareKnuckle

Anyway, if you phone up BareKnuckle, they'll be able to help you decide on the magnets you want (they have different tonal characteristics I'm not too knowledgeable on), and I'm pretty sure they'll allow you to have any of their covers on them if you talk to them over the phone

Edit: Maybe try one of these in the neck? The Nailbomb are easily my favourite anyway, so I'm a little biased.

Perhaps a Mule would suit you better though in the Neck.

Blasphemy! The WCR Fillmores wipe the floor with BKP Stormy Mondays! (I take it that they're supposed to be similar winds? Duane Allman-ish overwound PAFs?) Other than that, the only other BKP I've tried are the Mules, I personally didn't really see what set them apart from Fralins, Lollar Imperials or WCR Crossroads. I can't speak on their higher output pickups as they're not really my thing.

Well yeah, they specialise in higher output pickups I haven't really tried many of their lower output pickups, as they're quite hard to find let alone on a guitar in a shop!

Anyway, I think calling them is the best option as they'll be able to help you find the sound you want from the pickups and they really know their stuff! And yes, I am in a band called Disarm Goliath. I'm Steve B, if you actually recognised the name

Oh cool, yeah I think I remember now, were you there with your girlfriend (I think) and possibly a few mates? Down towards the right of the stage past the sound desk? It's a good venue, I'm not sure when/if we'll next be back there but I'm sure we'll be able to organise another gig in 2009 We're only from an hour or so down the motorway from Stourbridge anyway. Hope you get the pickups/sound you want

Thanks, we're looking to record some new stuff in March actually with a producer who worked with David Bowie and KillSwitch Engage (odd mix I know), as the other guitarist in the band (the asian one) hasn't recorded with us yet so we sound a bit different, and I've been more involved in the writing this time.

Can't say much more but things are changing for us currently

i think stormy mondays are underwound paf types. i haven't tried them though.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

hmm... maybe, the pickups I tried were in a Gibson R8, the guy who had it said that they were wound Duane Allman style, I just assumed they were the Stormy Mondays (though I guess the SM may be underwound Dickey Betts style, though most people are after that Duane tone). May have been a custom wind then. Not sure, good pickups though.

Email the guy there, Tim, telling you what gear you have and what tones you're after and he'll recommend you. He knows his **** and he knows his pick ups, he's really nice and will give you exactly what you want.

yeah, i dunno either. stormy monday is an allman bros tune, isn't it? i'm not too well up on the allman bros...
