What were you inspired or found a new interest in 2008 that you never expected to have?
How were they surprising that you started to have an interest in them?

This year I borrowed Avenged Sevenfold's latest album and I was worried because, it's alternative metal damn it, how can it be good?
But man I couldn't hear a damn "We want to make music that sell, not good music" in their album, I loved it for the solos and the quality and the diversity and the...
Anyways I was shocked.

Yea it's a very good album. So is the new one Cynic put out.

I was surprised at how little good music came out in '08. I think I only bought 2 albums that came out last year, the new ones by Bloc Party and Rise Against, and neither lived up to my expectations.

Beethoven's new album was pretty kickass, his new funk fusion style is really impressive.

Rap

And by Rap I mean 13 and God, Themselves, Fbcfabric and Reindeer, cLOUDDEAD. So, like, alt. rap, I guess. Oh, and I got into Gentle Giant a few months ago. Awesome 70's Prog.

Plus everything else, Opeth, Cynic, etc.
My gear:
Schecter C-1+ w/ Seymour duncan Jazz (neck) and Full Shred (bridge), with Sperzels
B-52 LG-100A 4x12 half stack

Well, every now and then a new piece of music is discovered by older artists, that's why you get whoever's 3.5th symphony.

Also, loads of more recent dead guys are releasing music, I mean, look at Tupac.

Black Stone Cherry, I heard of them before 08, but they never really captured my interest, but with Folklore and Superstition they blew me away, now I can't get enough of them.

I am seeing them and the Faceless with Meshuggah at the end of the month. It will be AWESOME!!!

On a more serious note, I was surprised by Death Magnetic, I did not expect it to be as good as it was.
VERY METAL!
