i have a marshall mg100 stack-combo. now, i know these amps (more or less) suck, and im always hearing "upgrade! get a new amp! that amp sucks, get an orange!" but buying a whole new stack/half-stack is a bit pricey, and i know i wouldnt get much money for a used mg100 setup. so i was wondering, would it be worth it just to switch out the cab speakers with some really nice ones? btw, i dont know anything about this kind of thing, so im sorry if this is not even an option and i made you waste your time. thanks

it doesnt matter what other people think. if you think it sounds good then why spend money to please OTHER people? its the same thing with my B.C. Rich. people say B.C. Richs are ****. mines the most comfortable guitar ive ever played. and thats why i bought it. f*ck other people! its YOUR amp not THEIRS!

now if YOU think it needs an upgrade THEN start thinking about changing it up a bit.

well then what would you guys suggest i replace it with then? i play an epiphone g400 through it, and my style of music i play is pop/punk/metal, a la Sum41's "Does This Look Infected" album.

No particular order but here is stuff I would be considering along with a Vypyr and a Valveking and a Blues Jr.

Traynor YCV40 112 $450 (yum)
http://columbia.craigslist.org/msg/983778138.html

Kustom Quad DFX stack $400 (ask someone about this)
http://columbia.craigslist.org/msg/980704429.html

Vox Valvetronix 30VT $200 (not my thing but worth lookin at)
http://columbia.craigslist.org/msg/978112510.html

Line 6 Flextone $500 (Do this now if you like effects built in)
http://charleston.craigslist.org/msg/984779904.html

Vox Valvetronix 100VTXL combo $300 (i didn't care for the XLs even more)
http://charleston.craigslist.org/msg/964806959.html

anyway - that is a start. Otherwise the B52s are on sale right now if you didn't see that and they would fit real well.

JCM 900 slx head $600 (needs cab and over budget but might motivate someone)

IIRC, Dave "Brown Sound" Baksh, formerly of Sum 41, used a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL50. Nothing special.

but my lack of amp knowledge is EXTREMELY high. seriously, you have no idead how little tone/amp knowledge i have. its painfull...

My school actually had one of those Kustom stacks, so I got to play it a bit.

It's OK, nothing more or less. The built in effects are horrible though.

Out of all of those I would probably go with the Flextone for your styles. If you really want the half stack look (which is OK, I prefer it too) then you can get a Flextone extension cab for quite cheap, and you got a stack.
