i love to play classic rock and i was wondering what are the best pickups for playing classic rock?

what kind of classic rock are we talking here? theres a bit of diversity in there.

I'd say your standard crunchy classic rock sound is from a PAF styled humbucker.

Christ there's some terrible "advice" floating round in this thread which seems to primarily consist of people throwing out random pickups simply because they've heard of them.

TS - what amp have you got, what's wrong with your tone at the moment and how do you want it to change.

If you're just asking a general (and IMO rather pointless) question then the answer would be "Something PAF-fy".

exactly. People just shouldn't be giving advice when they have no clue about what anything really is.

Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II

God. No.

If it wasn't for Slash, most people wouldn't even think twice about the SD Alnico II Pros. As it is, lots of people know them but almost nobody knows what they're for or why Slash uses them.

Pay attention people: Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers (this doesn't really apply to the single coil versions) are specialised pickups, just like active pickups are or ceramic neck pickups. They are not for all-roudn use, they are not to be advised or suggested to people. If you are someone who would benefit from using Alnico II Pros, then you're not the sort of person that would be posting threads on here asking how to get X sound. You need a specific type of set-up to get any real use out of Alnico II Pros, otherwise you might as well be playing on stock Squier or Epiphone pickups. They are not pickups for anyone, they are pickups for people who really know what they want and have a full matching rig to go with them.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.

I might have missed it, but are you buying a new guitar? What kind of guitar do you currently have and are you wanting to replace single coil or humbuckers?

Think about it.
If people want to get the pickups because Slash has them, then they obviously want his sound.
So they automatically know what they want.
