Yo homies.

I was bored and just got paid so I decided to head on over to one of the lumber yards around here and see how much a plank of pine would cost me. Yes, Pine is a softwood, but the original Telecasters were made of pine and some say they sounded better but were fragile. I'll deal.

Anyway, I'm going to do this up like the '52. Butterscotch Blonde finish, nitro laquer, maple neck/fingerboard, probably some Rock Monkey pups, and a Fender vintage 3-saddle chrome/brass bridge.

Picture of desired final product:

Pictures of my enourmous wood!

Thanks to Bobby for the template. I'll keep this updated, but I'll only be able to work on it at school - I'm using their workshop there.

Smexy piece of wood you got there. I always loved Pinecasters. And the fact that it's a blackguard, just pure awesome.

Pine was $30 all together. It was like $14 a foot or something like that.

Nice idea. I love butterscotch blonde.

In fact, my grandpa's '68 Chevy Corvair is butterscotch blonde. Ohh.....what a sexy car.....

I actually got a 1952 re-issue in butterscotch blonde for my birthday a few years ago, it's fantastic. Make sure you do it proper butterscotch blonde tho, all the ones I see nowadays are much lighter in colour than mine and don't look as warm and beautiful.

To jim: nan son I'm set.

I hope to do it proper bs blonde. I might need some help finding the right stain.

Wow thats redicuolusly expensive for pine I think like 2 years ago I bought some wood for a shelf I was building and it was like $2.95 a board foot.

^ yeah, but this is 6/4 or 7/4 so it is much thicker, and therefor more difficult to procure, and therefor more expensive.

I think.

Yeah it's already planed and jointed and everything so I really just have to cut and sand. Also this is one 1 3/4' thick piece so it's a beast. I probably paid too much but I didn't really feel like looking around at different places. And if I **** this up I can probably find it cheaper somewhere else and maybe make a two-piece.

Meh.

Lets hope so.

Hey, the thickness of a tele is 1 3/4''...right?

Also I'm about to trace out the shape on the wood. Hopefully do some cutting in school tomorrow. We'll see.

As Kyle Harper told me in regard to my strat, Fender has varied their body thicknesses from 1.75" to 1.79" throughout the years, so anywhere around there is a safe bet.

There were already a lot of teles that I wanted to build, but I saw a pic of the '52 reissue and nearly creamed myself. The next few tele ideas I have will remain secret.

I have this blank of alder from stewmac sitting in my room too. That's supposed to be for my Hendrix monterey strat build, but I'm having a hard time not using it.
