The next big thing...

I'm working on checking out all of these bands.

When I searched "pirates" under lyrical themes, MA showed me all these:

1. Alestorm
2. Battleheart (UK)
3. Cauldron Black Ram
4. Dark Cove
5. Dom Vetrov
6. Jikuu Kaizoku Seven Seas
7. Legendsea
8. Liquid Skull
9. Los Pirates
10. Mandrake (Swe)
11. Northern Shadows
12. Pirates of Doom
13. Running Wild
14. Scuurvy
15. Shackles
16. Swashbuckle
17. Verbal Deception

I only know a couple of these...

Well, worth a listen

Pirate metal doesn't exist.

clearly you haven't listened to alestorm

I have their cd it is definitely pirate metal
#6
Just started on Alestorm, lmao this is great stuff.
On a serious note, there drummers pretty damn good.
#7
I've heard Alestorm before, their myspace cracks me up, they are true pirate metal.

oh, just so you know:

Battleheart = Alestorm

Their label made them change their name.

EDIT:

best lyrics ever:

"Come along and here me tale
Of a ghastly pirate man
If you dare to look at his face
You will surely **** your pants"

From the band Scuurvy

i've always wanted to be a pirate, but i guess making pirate metal is the next best thing

lyrical content does not, and will never, determine a genre of music.

Indeed, Under Jolly Roger came out over 20 years ago. And they actualy sound 'piratey', for lack of a better word, without relying on accordions and shit.
Alestorm are garbage.

I have alestorm's album. Pretty decent stuff. Ironically, despite my username, they're the only pirate themed band I really listen to
#18
Running Wild are far superior to Alestorm

I wanted to like them, but the album was extremely boring

I... I should return to Arkham.

Half of Alestorms album is good, the other half is just boring.

Hmm judging from your pic you'd fit in more with a fat busted tribute.

Nah, zombie thrash is the nest big thing. Just you wait.

Anyway, Alestorm are just about the only pirate metal worth hearing IMO. The rest of them only really have novelty value.

Scuurvy broke up

No.
No they didn't.

Anyway, Alestorm are just power metal with pirate themes really...
Still awesome, but it doesn't make pirate metal a genre.
#24
Right now it is not really a genre, but I think it will find it's identity in the near future

Great drinking songs, also.

Yes, Running Wild >>>>>>> the other pirate themed bands, but that doesn't make the others not worth a listen.

Black Hand Inn is my favorite Running Wild.

But Accordions do.

That would just make them folk metal with a pirate theme.
That being said, Alestorm are still a lot of fun to listen to.

God damn it, with this logic, Finntroll are legitimately Troll Metal.

This is bullsh!t. This is not a real genre.

Alestorm are great, their mums go on tour with them to make sure they're ok while travelling. How metal is that.

"____" Metal is another monument to this musical genres degraded state.

Metal has way too many similarities and qualities of a fad now a days. Its pathetic.

I like it, it makes room for much innovation.

If we all just played "metal," metal would be dead right now.

I love sub genres.

I hate Pirate/Troll/Depressive/Zombie/Robot/Drunk etc etc Metal. Those are not musical genres. They are petty, lame, and meek attempts at a musical identity that is the catalyst for more pathetic fads in Metal.

When Metal was just an ugly placenta covered baby that resembled rotten unwashed fruit, it did not need to gimmickly charade itself. And when their was a band with one of the aforementioned lyrical subjects, lets go with Pirates (Running Wild), they did not make horrible Metal, add an accordion, say Yar a lot and call it a day.

You did miss my point.
