the crate v series that's on sale is just about as much versatility as you're gonna get at that price.

5 watt tube amps are not wimpy, they get loud. I think your budget is hurting you, maybe save up and you'll have more options.

so why are tube better? and how come all the ones i see have just a volume knob and maybe a tone. no eq or drive/gain or effects would i have to buy pedals for the effects i want?

Check this out for $400:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Windsor-All-Tube-Half-Stack?sku=485059

or:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=480260V

or

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Palomino-V3212-30w-1x12-Combo-Amp?sku=480987

(if you can get a little extra money)

Seriously, a Crate v32 like that, 2x12, that's WAY more amp than you need right now, and you'll love what you can do with a simple distortion pedal ($25) in front of it.

wow, looks like everyone sold out of those, lol. sorry about that...its on order though, for zzounds, and samedaymusic. so if you want to wait, or buy on ebay.

What about the Fender Vibro Champ XD..... Some one just told me to get a tube over a modeling so i was just wondering why there better... i mean with a tube you would have to spend even mor money on pedals to get the effects you want theat you could get in a modeling amp already in them
#18
since I cant find a v18, I would suggest that you go with a v5.

Go peavey vypyr
Generally, tube amps are better
but on this kind of bugdet, you can either
get a modelling amp like the vypyr thatll do everything imaginable well
or a cheap tube amp thatll do cleans alright and a blues overdrive whilst cranked
and i very much doubt he'll be able to tell the difference
