I am thinking about getting a dirty fingers humbucker for the bridge on my G400, but beacuse it won't match the neck pickup, I have thought about taking off the cover when I get the new one.

I was wondering what difference this will make to the sound, as I still want to get the nice mellow sound. Please help!

^ yup. The covers are really just an accessory when it comes to tone. no real impact.

for plastic pickup covers, there are no changes in tone. but for nickel/chrome covers, there is a difference when you remove it. Larry Dimarzio discussed it in one of his videos.

really? I'd never thought that it would make that much of a difference to the magnetism!

my friend actually has a dirty fingers in his G400. The pickup is noticeably superior over the stock one. Its much more....whats the word....vibrant maybe? I'll see if I can get him on here and tell you.
