You can plug a guitar into a bass amp because the bass amp can handle the frequencies. Some guitarists enjoy the massive clean tone from a bass amp.

You CAN NOT put a bass through a guitar amp as the lower frequencies will damage it very quickly and won't sound that good.

bass thru gtr amp=bad idea. i used to use an old transistor amp for bass. then fried some transistors. however, i have used my fender twin for bass, at low volumes. without probs. hit and miss i guess. if you got the cash to fix or replace your amps. do what u gotta do.
All my guitars are old enough to buy beer, are You?

Guitar + Bass Amp = Just fine. SRV actually had a Fender Bassman in his rig.

Bass + Guitar Amp = KABLOOM! Most of the time you'll really mess up your amp.

it's not the amp itself that can't handle the bass frequencies, it's the speakers. Bass speakers are made to handle much lower frequencies.
