I was wondering if someone could fully break down the P,A,M,I forms and mutations of elliot smith's pickless strumming.

whereas live youtube videos are giving me good visuals, I'm still a little unclear on the actual movements, and i'm still unclear whether or not this is a standard or a personal technique,

but thanks in advance.
Depends on the situation or it can be a personal preference, i.e standard in Classical would be P,I,M,A. Flamenco does things differently with P,I,A,M. For some pieces of music you have to use P,A,M,I because it's easier. It just varies, of course I may not be right, but I think elliot smith wants to look a bit different that's all.
