I might be selling my digitech grunge sometime soon, and i'll need a new distortion pedal.

http://www.bajaao.com/effect-units-effect-pedals-c-8_63.html

are a few i can get.

Tones i need:
Opeth Rhythm-ish metal (think Blackwater Park intro), i also want some decent palm muted tones.
I have a Vox AD30VT, and for these, i'll be using a clean model with light overdrive.

Anyone tried those AMT pedals?
How are they?

Amps:
Laney VH 100L, Engl 100W, Peavey 5150

hard to fit those amps in a pedal

I know

I just want something that sounds close.
I was thinking gain layering.
Like a pedal with less gain, more volume, running thru a dirty channel on my amp.

What would be a good pedal for this?
Pref. something that can do decently high gain too...for live situations where i can't take my amp.

AMT has a 5150 based pedal. It's not really crappy digital stuff either so you may want to check that out. They also have a Recto pedal that may get you what you want.

Thing is, mine's already a modeling amp.
Would running a modeling pedal thru it sound good or would it just be like any other pedal?
AMT site says it sounds fine either way.

That's a comparison.

I'm really liking the Fatal Tube Distortion.

for sounds clips.

Think it can do gain boosts and standalone performance too?

Availability issues.

All the AMT ones are very easily available and i'd have enough to buy em if my grunge gets sold.

It just depends on the pedal. AMT pedals are usually pretty kick ass so I would recommend them, although I haven't played the Recto pedal.

Some reviews of the Fatal tube aren't too good though.

I'm looking at the Metallizer too.
I've heard that does some good tones.
And maybe the Du hast.

Most of BOSS's distortion pedals aren't very great. Most BOSS pedals in general aren't that great, except the delays.

The Du Hast, from what I've heard on YouTube and various clips, sounds pretty good (although they're probably eq'd to hell and back) Never played one, but out of AMT's others it stands out for me for br00t4l1ty. If you want something lighter maybe look into an overdrive pedal.
