Van Halen is a band.

You must specify which Van Halen you mean.
BRIAN. SCHNEIDER.

I assumed that when monkeysintheday said

and you replied with huh? I thought you thought that eddie was the only van halen.

you mean there's more than one van halen in the band ? his brother too ?

if that's what you mean, then what were you trying to say ?

This got me into Van Halen. I bought the albums later.

And googling "best of both worlds" got me nothing but Hannah Montana

"Van Halen" refers to the band. Two of the four members are the brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, who play guitar and drums respectively. Singer David Lee Roth suggested they name the band after themselves. End of story.

So basically, there are 2 Van Halens in Van Halen.

There's 3 van halens, or at least their used to be if it changed again.

There used to be 2 Van Halens in the band. Eddie and Alex.

Now there's 3 with Wolfgang.
May the Force be with You.

start with VH 1 and 2. Anything with David Lee Roth is gold (yes Diver Down!), Sammy is great stuff too! For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is the best Sammy disc.

Ok, now we have that cleared up, but to answer your question, one of the first 3 albums, or the best of both worlds.

I'd start off with the latter then improve your collection over time.

so best of both worlds is better than 'best of volume 1' + vol 2 that's going to be released this summer ?

The Best of both worlds is a good greatest hits CD, but to be honest it leaves a lot of great songs out and it's almost $40. Considering you can buy a lot of Van Halen cd's for $9:99 I would suggest buying these albums

Van Halen - Van Halen

Van Halen - Fair Warning

Van Halen - 1984

Van Halen - 5150

Van Halen - ou812
