The neck seems to have become disconnected(although not fully) from the body, and as a result the strings are floating above the fretboard at a height that renders the guitar extremely difficult to play.

Is there any hope for the old fellow?

that's something a professional luthier would be able to tell you.

take it to the shop before it gets worse

repairs might be a ton of money though, even up to the cost of the guitar

Detune the guitar. It'll snap soon if you keep the tension up.

If it's an expensive guitar then it might be worth fixing, but if it's a cheap one and it costs like 75% of what your guitar is worth then it's not worth it.

Either way, take the tension off to make sure your fretboard doesnt snap as well.
Equipment:
- Art & Lutherie Cedar CW (SOLD! )
- Martin D-16RGT w/ LR Baggs M1 Active Soundhole Pickup
- Seagull 25th Anniversary Flame Maple w/ LR Baggs Micro EQ

Yeah, it's been detuned for quite a while, I just wanted to highlight the problem in the picture, so I tuned it up slightly.

I assume I should just pick up a new guitar then if the prices will add up to that much. It wasn't of very stellar quality anyhow. Thanks.

Looks like the same action as my classical.

It must have been left leaning on he neck for at least 5 years...

You live in a ruler, the only child of trouser water (?); it's very fantastic, and salami!

Yeah, just from the picture, the guitar doesn't seem to be of great quality. Look into Seagull guitars.
