Would it be acceptable to perform song lyrics as a monologue?
I have to perform one some time later in the year and was listening to "The bard's song" by Blind guardian and thought it would make a haunting little monologue.

Thoughts?

I think lyrics should work as a form of poetry on their own,
so yeah even though I'm not a drama kid I say go for it.

Great lyrics actually have a meaning.

(I'm looking at you Jonas Brothers...)
Blindfolds aside I'd probably still close my eyes

And try to feel a trembling fetal life inside
that shotgun barrel that's about to make me bleed

Like an ulcer in the stomach of the beast

no, unless you do a spoken word version of Mr. Tambourine Man.

Don't you have to write the monologue yourself?

not usually, some classes might require that but in theater you usually pick prewritten monologues.

I've seen it done before. Not particularly well though. If you think you can do it well, then go for it
