Hey kids, just wondering if ear plugs are really nessisary, I've played quite a few shows and had a few loud jams without them, only to not be able to hear properly for about 2-3 days. But am I really doing damage? I aquired myself some decent ear plugs the other day just incase. Seeing as I mainly perform as vocalist, I've got 1-3 fold back monitors bairing, (the way I like them) 2 stack guitar amps, bass amp and a drumkit blasting my ears, and lets be honest, we don't take much care for our neighbours :P. So it's quite loud.

Point is, am I doing myself perminate damage? Will it affect me later in life?

This. Just wear the ear plugs. You will regret it later in life if you don't. They take some getting used to, but for your situation I would say they're definitely necessary.

I use £20 off the shelf earplugs, they work a treat..

If you can afford it, get some custom molded ones, they'll be amazing.
