Right, basically, I have an old Fender Precision that I'm not using much at the moment, and I want to do something with it. I'm thinking of 4 options at the moment. I'll list them for your consideration, and you can tell me what you think of them. Hell, I'll even do a poll just for you lovely people.

Option 1) Defret current maple and rosewood neck, (possibly finish), redo electronics and shielding.

Option 2) Put a Graphite Fretless/Fretted neck on it, redo electronics and shielding.

Option 3) Refinish, a jazz pickup on either side of the precision pickup with their own seperate blend and an overall blend. Fretless neck or fretted. Redo electronics and shielding.

Option 4) Refinish, jazz pickups either side, electronics, blah blah + fretless/fretted graphite neck.

So, tell me what you think of each idea.

I'd say option 2, the idea of a fretless P-Bass just dosn't appeal

Though there is always option 5; give it to me

With your option three, a blend pot for each pickup is it and then a master one. how would this work as in a vloume pot. I voted number three its the one im always thinking bout doing. You winding your own pickups.

It would be a blend between Jazz Pickups, and a Master Blend between the Precision pickup and the Jazz pickups.

I probably won't wind these - I haven't worked out how my design translates to J-pups.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

I say option 3 but how are you going to get a j pickup near the neck? Are you going to rout it yourself?
#12
Ok, have you thought about a series parrelel switch maybe for the two jazz pickups, that would add some sound.

number 2, like somone else said a fretless P isnt really appealing
#14
fretlesses are... overrated in my oppinion. I know I'm gonna get ripped to shreds for this, but they are a bit... gimmicky in some respects...
I'm not saying they're not Good, or they don't have their uses, but I'd prob. never use one live/recording.

Option 3 sounds the most interesting. Just don't make it fretless.
