i recently acquired a peavey classic 30, knowing it should be a great amp. its not at all what i expected. the tones people get on youtube are so much better. It states they are using nothing but the amp and guitar, they give the settings, and it still does not sound like it. could the tubes be going bad? this is my first tube amp. its not my playing either.

it's probably not that the tubes are bad, it just could be that they are different tubes than those in your amp, of a different guitar being used in general
Peavey XXX combo *upgraded screen resistors, Tung-Sol's, and 6L6's*
Schecter Syn Std. * modded, scalloped, and worn*
Schecter C-1 Elite *still sexy*
Ibanez AEL 12-string

Mine sounds pretty much the same, and it's all stock.
Give us clips of yours so we can judge what's wrong?

Ah, I've seen that one. Yeah I think he forgot to mention he was using a BYOC pedal, but I'm not too sure. Mine doesn't sound like that really, but then again, I'm not playing what he's playing so..it's not all about the amp, fingers count too

EQ varies a lot when i'm playing around. but i tend to go for something around:
Bass 6 - 8
Mids 3 - 6
Treble 5.5 - 7
Clean volume depends on time of day, never above 1 at night.
Pre anywhere from half to full and post same concept as clean.
During the day when the wife's away I'll sometimes dime the volume out.
Anything over 6 on the reverb seems too much for anything short of a clapton ballad.

clean channel is more of the problem. turning any of the knob settings does barely anything
