i was just playing the scom intro and it sounded alot better on my mg. on my jcm800 it doesn't sound right(maybe more gain should be added). the mg is more modern voiced... which has more gain. would adding a distortion or overdrive pedal fix this problem on my jcm800?

yes, but, if you can't get good tone out of a JCM800 you shouldn't be playing guitar.

You shouldn't play guitar - you will never even know what sounds good.

A joke.

Turn the gain on the amp up then.

What EQ settings are you using too?

it's a 50watt combo
bass 5
treble 7
mid 4
gain 8-10

Use these setting's as a base...

Bass - 5
Treble - 7
Mid - 7
gain - 6.5
presence - 5

Neck pickup of guitar chosen

Fiddle round with those settings and the volume as loud as you can get it.

No, don't do it!!! Groove Tubes are the absolute worst tubes there are! Try just looking up tubes and basically anything is better then GTs. JJs are usually great, you may want to replace them if they suck. You could try getting higher gain preamp tubes too, I think that tupedepot lets you select that as an option.
