Pretty darn great! Got a few gremlins to work out. Also i've got to get some Volume and Tone controls. The whole guitar will get a proper ''Pro" soon enough, but i've got her llow with no buzz.

At the moment, The pickup is harsh and screamy, great for high gain stuff but unfortunately, without a buttload of bass, it sounds like I'm trying to play country and western and the clean channel. Gotta get me some tone control.

Why no neck pup?

hey, if you want more bass and like the look of only one control on your guitar why not build or buy a bass booster. There quite easy to build if your interested.
#11
No thanks, i'll have all the bass I need once i get my Volume and Tone controls in.

I see you're Australian. So am I.

Don't know where to go from here.

me too! actually i just thought i'd ask how much this stuff from warmoth cost you if you don't mind saying. I have been thinking about buying an all parts strat replacement neck for a build but ideally i'd like to get a warmoth neck with a few custom options on there. How hard do all the customs charges and so on hit? thats my main concern, and i'm guessing the neck is really nice.

cheers man
#15
There is no customs charges if you order all the parts separately, like at different times.

If you have them do a finish and a custom ordered body, it's a bit pricey. Unless you want exquisite woods, it's best to do your own finishing to save money, otherwise stick to basic woods. mine all up cost about $1000, but that was mainly because of the neck, all rosewood.
You could get a really really nice instrument from $600 to $800, but if you've got 2 grand to spare, then you've already got an awesome, excellent, beast of a guitar or bass.

Do you think I could do a black outer burst (natural->black) and still be able to Tung it? I'll be building a walnut soloist as well (need tools) and WAS gonna nitro or poly it, but the tung looks like awesome on yours.
#17
Maybe. i'm not too good with finishing I know very little. But I guess if you used black stain, or dye, then tung it, it may work

Test it out though before you try because I'm just guessing here.

What pickup do you plan to put in the neck later on?

I just relised, the shipping would've cost you both testacles! Sucks being in Australia, i can not find anywhere that sells wood

Understandable considering you're putting it in a walnut guitar. The JB is traditionally a bright screamy pickup. Ever consider something a little less... bright and screamy?
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.

QFT, the thing was made for Les Paul-type guitars. It sounds great in my LP, but I imagine it would be pretty harsh in anything less bassy. Kinda limiting if you don't like the sound of a pickup wide open.

I meant It to be bright and screamy, but I id consider something less screamy afterwards I considered looking at the PAF's made by Seymour or Dimarzio. I also looked at an even screamier pup, the X2N (or xn2 I've forgotten already.)

I plan to put either a Jb jr in or a Hot stack.

Shipping almost cost me my testicles, but instead of using UPS tracing mail I used USPS. Cheaper and quicker, though no tracking and sometimes it said to be a bit harsh. Also mum payed!

For wood look At the Timber Slab Factory in Mulumbibmy (search it) or

http://www.guitarwoods.com.au/catalog/index.php - Botany Bay

OR

http://www.luthierssupplies.com.au/ -Sydney

Or even better, search for luthiers in your area, talk to them.

Next build Is gong to be A 5 string Neckthrough Bass!

That won't be for a while seeing as I have to get a job and earn myself at least $500-I'm 14.

The bass though is going to use a Carvin Neckthrough neck and the body wood is going to be Aussie Mountain ash, as soon as my dad pulls it from storage in the shed, and assuming it's got the right moisture content, Or otherwise, Swamp Ash.

just so you know, multiple coats of oil is redundant, unless you mix with evaporative/polyurethane chemicals, you are just wasting your time on more than two coats.

but the color looks nicer with 6 coats.. i think?
Shred Head
All that theory my guitar teacher tries to drill into my head just gets buried under piles of porn and I never manage to apply any of it
#26
It isn't really for nothing, all those extra coats.
1: thicker finish/Makes it more shiny
2 harder finish: As tung oil soaks into the body wood, it cures and hardens. Add more coats will make the finish harder.

That is really nice.

Also, LP Addict, I disagree with you about the oil, based on first hand experience.

When I tung oiled my maple neck, I applied 2 coats as the can suggested. I went googling to ee if more coats made it shinier, google told me yes. I put 4 more coats on (for a total of 6) with 24 hours drying time in between, and now it mus shinier, harder, thicker, and tinted more amber.

As for this parts assembly (it isn't a build) it looks very good, and I'm sure it plays wonderfully.

No, sorry. I haven't got any recording equipment or cameras.

The neck Is unfinished, I may end up putting tung oil coats on it because the oil in the rosewood is making awkward to play because of the heat.
