I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

I voted Fuzz.

you can always fuzz something up and it will sound goood

But I believe a good Compression is extremely important.

I run an overdrive signal along with my clean pretty much all the time, so overdrive for me.

To be honest, if I'm gonna use effects on bass it'll usually be drive. Everything else sounds bit silly to me, so I tend to leave the effects to the guitar, which appears to make them sound better (in my opinion of course). I love bassists who use effects well, but as a general rule, I only use them if the guitarist isn't using them.

Adding an edge of OD works very well, so I do that quite a lot.

Also a fair amount of flanger/chorus/reverb, depending on the song.

Fuzz. Nearly picked synth.

QUESTION

Can the ODB-3 be tweaked to sound like fuzz?

EDIT: Or the iban. PD7? Looking for my first pedal.

I choose 'Other'....

My chosen effect is an Enhancer. My BOSS Limiter/Enhancer is great.

Its not overdrive, its not fuzz, its not even drive........its, well, amazing it just boosts every bit of your tone that you want boosting. You know that tone that has the punchy mids, loads of bass and distinct treble? When you can hear your frets when you fret a note, a metal sound? this is it.

I use it as a pre-amp booster, just too give me that boost during faster more aggressive bits in a song. I find that this competes over an overdrive because while you have a guitar thrashing overdrive with you its easy too blend in with it. this thing cuts through a beast

Apart from that. Compression is a slappers best friend Which is good because my LMB-3 is a compressor/enhancer

Delay and reverb for me.

This is what I would have voted for, but I don't actually own any
(I just play around with them when they happen to show up)

I use a touch of overdrive from time to time. usually when my strings start to go a bit dead, I find it gives some of the 'zing' you get with new strings. I also find myself using a lot of flanger, but it's not in the poll.

I own the ODB'3. If you set the balance all the way to overdrive and max the gain, you can get a fuzz sound similar to Chris Wolstenholme, if that's what your trying to achieve.

Scott got it. I have a blend pedal in my gear list as well which works rather quite nicely.

This poll caught me at a funny time. I adore my clean tone and think it's the greatest thing ever (wait for the album...). However, I recently stopped using my Sonic Maximizer because I felt it took something away from my tone - made it seem like I was listening to my bass on a CD instead of hearing it live. I was also getting frustrated with my distorted tone as I felt it was too harsh through my cab without enough bottom.

However, today, as I went downstairs to get the BBE to put on eBay, I had a genius idea - put the Sonic Stomp at the very end of my effects loop (which has an on-off pedal itself), and used it as an EQ. Crank the bass, roll off some top. Now I have the perfect distorted tone - clear, clean, modern, and thick. Adding my Micro POG in there to double guitars makes it the stuff of the Gods.

But I still adore my clean tone.

My favourite effect is my loop pedal.

But that's because I play a lot on my own/with 2. I hardly use it in a full band setting.

I voted compression, because it's all i use in a band setting.

My private practice board is wired like this though:

Sansamp RBI (rack) loop out
into
8 band parametic EQ
into
Boozilla Wah + fuzz button
into
Digitech Bass driver set for distortion
into
another digitech Bass Driver, set for OD (never, ever ever used together lol)
into
digitech bass Squeeze
into
digitech bass chorus
into
another 8 band parametric EQ
into
sansamp RBI effects return

soon to be added:
-An envelope follower (probably EHX Q-tron or a digitech Synth Wah, i know the q is a better pedal, but the digi is cheaper and would fir better)
-a delay pedal
-thinking about a looper, since after all i only use my board when playing by myself, but it would be nice to have some company (even if its just loops of myself lol)
probably gonna add an A/B switch or the sansamp footswitch so i can punch the whole loop out in once motion rather than clicking off 2-6 pedals in a row (especially the wah, it dosen't like to turn off)

I mainly use an Ibanez PD-7, which is both overdrive and distortion, in addition to clean boost...I guess I mark "other" ?
Nope, no sig here.
