Basically I need a new amp thats about under $150. It needs to have good distortion and something higher than 10w.

Any suggestions would help, I'm going to guitar center tomorrow btw.

vox d-5, I know it's under 10 watts, but at that level, the difference is so minute you wouldn't notice. anything of a higher wattage is going to have terrible sound. save up. if not for the sake of YOUR ears, then for OURS.

Almost bought a valvetronix myself, but then decided to save up some more money and get a tube amp.

When it comes to solid states, usually higher wattage is more desirable because it prevents poweramp clipping.

Anyways, the larger speakers help with tone a bit too.

I would go with one of the commonly suggested trio of Roland Cubes, Vox Valvetronixes, and Peavey Vypyrs.

the roland microcube is surprisingly amazing. I heard a kid playing one the other day and jamming with a DRUMMER.. he was overpowered by the drums, but it was pretty dang loud for it and the tone was really compared to comparable amps.

if i were you i'd save up and go tube, but that's just IMO
