Is there anything about you that makes you stand out from your band or other bass players? act differently on stage? you dress different( they in suits, you in shirt in a tee) they mellow and you jump crazy? a effect pedal?, they way you play?)

for me it's my left handed bass, i get looks like how can he play that or awesome! left handed bassist?
#2
the way i play, hardcore, unique, and crazily, i jump around, i slap, i do lots of fills. its also cuz im awesome
Try adding more delay.

I play audibly. Thats an accomplishment around here, especially with bands that kids in my area form. As soon as i put roundwounds on my jazz bass, i got into a fight with my guitarist because he kept turning down the volume on my rig meh im leaving anyway.

That's because you're a 13 year old who only focuses on guitars. I bet most people can't tell the difference between your voice and your mother's.

i stand mainly bc i can play guitar bass and drums better than anyone in my band

You must have a huge keyboard to type, either that or you use your toes, or other unnamed parts of the body.

I play and provide a good backing section with interesting lines, write songs with fills of bass and drums, guitar and bass, or horns and bass. I play in a ska band btw. I am mellow because I want people to recognize my playing and not how I act on stage. Music is about music. Nothing else. IMO.

It doesn't make me "stand out" at all, but it makes me different than the people I just started a band with, because I never play the same part in songs, for the most part anyways. I'll get a basic thing down for each song but just do a bunch of improv fills anytime I get the chance, so I'm never repetitive. That's about all I have going for me.
#24
I'm 5'4", with very short hair and I'm female. When you play with people who are male and all over 5'11" you tend to stand out even before you've played one note.

^ I can relate.
That and awful metal bands.

And as alot of people have said, being a bassist really sets you apart from most people in Lurgan/Newry area where I'm from.

I should add... being a good bassist.

Most of the guys I know who play bass are what I like to call 'root notes and confused looks to the guitarist' guys.
#28
i look around with a totaly bored look on my face, looking at silly things like roof fittings, sometimes i go for a stroll across the stage, recently i haven't been able to do this due to having a 3ft long lead..
this is only when playing covers, we haven't got any songs of our own sorted yet.
of the 3 bassists in my school, i am the only one who doesn't insist on slapping all the time and the only one who doesn't think "pff picks are for noobs" (that is an actual quote)

God I remember the days when I had dreads.
Constantly irritated scalp, itchy face... they certainly were good times.
Coupled with an undercut I could safely say that I stood out in the crowd.

Don't really need to, at the end of the day I'm the one who writes a lot of the lyrics and a fair amount of the music.
As long as the song sounds good, and the band as a whole put on a good show, what does it matter if people are looking at me or not?

Not that I stand at the back looking bored, I dance about a bit and look out into the crowd, but given that my guitarist has dreads and the singer is really, really good, they're going to get the attention first.
