I have been always playing with the idea of spend huge money on a decent sound system rather on amps and guitars. But i always realise that i could enjoy the music through a decent stereo system with mp3 so i never actually bought any "audiophile-like" soundcard, amplifier or speakers.

My question is for the ones who have heard a high quality system:

Is it possible to have a system which have the dynamic range and ability for reproduce amp like sounds? In other words, if you listen guitar-based music, can something sounds as good if you would play trough an amp?

tl;dr: Can guitar music in a hi-fi sound like playing through an actual guitar amp?

Maybe but MP3s = Bad quality quite large loss of fidelity but try good cd, valve amp, mean speakers see how you go.

I've never heard that kind of dynamics on anything other than vinyl.

So if the source is good (like vinyl) then basically i record my playing with an "ideal" microphone and hear almost the same stuff from the speakers than i would hear from my amp?
