I'm trying to hook up an old hard drive to my new computer. But when i take out my old hd it doesn't even start up. a screen comes up that says start normaly, safe mode... Is there a way i can hook up the old maxtor 40gb hd with my hard drive that i have right now??

Seems like you still have an operating system on that drive. Do you have the jumpers set correctly (assuming this is a PATA/IDE drive, since I don't think SATAs go down to 40GB), as well as your boot priority settings in your BIOS?
