...fear of tuning strings, especially when you put new ones on.

I always get extremely nervous when putting on new strings. The way the pitch rises like the music on old cartoons when someone is about to fall just freaks me out.

And I always worry the string is going to snap and hit me in the eye or something. And I get crazy thoughts like:

"What if I accidentally put the wrong gauge string on"

or

"What if I didn't tighten the string holders on my floyd rose enough".
Sometimes I even have to walk away for a while to calm myself down.

Anyone else get like this?
I'm gonna suffer for the rest of my life

But I will always find a way to survive

Yeah, I get the feeling...

...especially with acoustics.

The other day I was restringing my acoustic, listening to the pitch rise, when all of a sudden....

...BAM! My bridge pin popped out and flew across the room.

I jumped four feet into the air.

haha every time i change my strings i think, if i break this im going to be really mad. Then i broke one once got mad, then i had to put the old string back on.. it was pretty fail. But i learned to always turn slowly.
#5
i always get scared of that sound too, thinking the new strings will snap. and i used to be so afraid of a string snapping and hitting me in the face/eye when i first got a guitar, but now i don't really worry about that, but it's always in the back of my mind when i put new strings on and i'm tuning them up for the first time

#11
I get a little bit of that.

I was tuning an acoustic. The string I was tuning kept on getting lower than in the right pitch, so I kept tuning it up, and then BAM. It popped up and hit me in the cheek.

I find that more with acoustics than electrics.

This has happened to me before. Now I know to keep my finger on the pin when I'm changing a string.

that has happened to me a few times, you gotta unwrap the string around your finger and that sucks cuz it makes the stuck part wiggle and then you gotta pull the string out of your finger, usually happens to me with one of the high strings

Oh my God that's the scariest thing that has ever happened to me, and it's happened twice.

Sometimes when a string is pretty tight but still a whole-note below "tune" I get wondering if I am using the wrong guage. I also am always deathly afraid that my high E will break as I'm tuning it so I take extra procaution by tightening it slowly and bending it so it can stretch a little.
#23
no, my guitar is so brutal that i just put the strings on and don't tune up.

I used to be nervous when I first started playing acoustic. After doing it at least 3 dozen times, I'm pretty comfortable with it. I think I can restring in under 15 minutes if I'm fast.

I hate that.

Another thing that happens to me is I tune up my higher strings, and suddenly I'll hear a large crack sound and the string will drop in pitch. That get's annoying/really suspenseful/scary.
#32
i swear this isnt bull****....my neighbour when he was 9 smashed his eyeball into 3 peices when a string snapped whilst tuning up....ever since i cant look at the headstock on my guitar when i tune....*shudders just thinkig back now*

he's ok now though. he didnt lose his sight or anything but he had an eyepatch on for about 2 years.

The sound of the string tension getting tighter and tighter sometimes makes me sick and anxious.

Hmm sometimes when I tune I'll be turning the peg for one string and it won't change pitch. I keep turning furiously, and suddenly I'll hear a small snapping noise and the pitch will drop a tone or two. It's ok in the end, I still manage to tune it up, but it worries me.

My restringing skills have never been that great.
