Soo, just about all of my cables have gone south in the last few weeks for some reason, and i need to upgrade. I only need a few, just for band practice and stuff. I go wireless live.

Anyway, what are some well priced cables that still sound great or what you pay, and are decently durable? I hear dimarzio, mogami, etc are pretty good.

Thoughts?

Planet Waves cables are nice, durable and cheap.

If you're going to spend more, look into Lava Cables, George L's, DiMarzio, Mogami, Klotz, etc. Don't buy Monster cables, they boost mids and call it "clear tone".

Mogami cables are awesome!!! I use Mogami 2524 cable in the back of my rack, and love the result.

If you really want GOOD cables, make your own. Use silver wire (strip some telephone wire and use that, cheapest way), not copper or anything else. A couple of 1/4" jacks, some heat-shrink tubing and some solder, and you're ready to go. Look on google to find the right way to solder them... Or the 1/4" jacks may come with instructions, it depends on where you get them. It's not hard.
Note: Homemade cables WILL look thin (unless you use some really fat wire), but don't let that throw you off. They are better, trust me.

Telephone wire, is still copper stranded core-unless spec'd custom.

I would argue that he'd be better off doing what rig builders to the stars like Bob Bradshaw, Pete Cornish, Dave Friedman, and Dave Phillips and every other rig builder uses, and that would be in 90+% of cases, Mogami cable, but that's just my thoughts on the matter, re: who he should "trust".

Mogami's are the best on the market in my opinion, but expensive as balls. Livewires are cheap, reliable, and sound good. They look expensive too.

This. I have a custom series for my guitar and a classic series speaker cable to connect my Little Giant head to the cab.

They can/do make a difference... BUT not a $100/cable worth of a difference, imo.

My advice is to try out some different cables if you have the opportunity to. A lot of people on these forums don't like Monster cables, but I personally prefer them over other brands.

Ill probably end up getting either dimarzio or planet waves., I think. I need something cheaper, as Im not recording with them, or playing live.

Lets see at $.81/foot for Mogami 2524... 10 feet $8.10 + 2 Switchcraft ends lets say 2 for $8. The Mogami seems less expensive to me, but cool... enjoy the "more" expensive Dimarzio or Planet waves

A M A Z I N G.... Truly AMAZING

Your reading comprehension AND Attitude are in need of an adjustment

The prices I shared with you for BOTH Mogami and Planet Waves cables WAS/IS for pre-made cables.

The "do it yourself price" for the Mogami would be WAY Less than the "do it yourself" price for planet waves. Too bad for you you can't solder them yourself, you'd save a TON of $$$ compared to the PREMADE ones I listed for you. Ahhh ignorance is bliss... pfft NOT

Yes... A Thank you, AND an apology. It would show some class on your part, in light of/despite your faux paux, and resulting embarrassing rant.

EDIT: Too proud? or Too embarrassed to show up again, I guess... Oh well

I have to constantly wonder why people get so worked up about the littlest things on this forum. Every other post I see in here is someone getting mad at someone else just because they read something wrong or have a different opinion than anyone else. Can't we all just get along?

In my case here, I wasn't so much upset that he misread what I wrote, or chose to exercise his right to go in a different direction then what I suggested he consider, (misguided as I think that might be-- as his basis appeared to be price and quality, then chose to go w/ higher price and lower (imo) quality product)--rather how he reacted to me

(Unmerited, as I see it)

You solder two point on each end of the cable.
There's a tutorial on UG by TwoString.

BTW, I think Canare cable is better than Mogami...

In any case...I'd buy from Death Valley Cable. That looks like quality stuff.

I've had Monster, Mogami, Planet Waves, Livewire, and George Ls, and the Mogami and George Ls are the better ones for tone. I go with Mogami for the reliability, especially the guitar->pedalboard and pedalboard->amp. I've also had the chance to try Lava cables and they're as good as the Mogami and George Ls. In fact, I think Lava owns Mogami and George Ls, as well as the more expensive Van den Hul and Evidence Audio. All of the cables owned by Lava that I've had to try are the best I've ever used and I recommend them over anything else, especially Monster, which are probably my least favorite of any cables I've owned because of the price to quality ratio.
