Post your favorite song about your hometown.

Mine's about my town, Mukwonago, Wisconsin.

Interesting tidbit, if you watched "The Mole" on ABC; Mark the guy who won, is a history teacher at my High School.

i don't think this thread will be too successful tbh.

New Orleans would be a good place for this though!
Or LA, of course

My hometown was mentioned in the song I Will Follow You into the Dark by Death Cab For Cutie

I don't know of any that are actually about the city though

Well it's not my hometown but I live in Morgantown, WV. I guess Joni Mitchell wrote the song "Morning Morgantown" unless it's about some other Morgantown I'm not aware of.

There's a town near me that's allegedly one of the best places to get away with murder, and there are a couple songs about it. That's about all, though.

well, I consider Omaha, NE to be my home.

And the only thing I can think of is Turn the Page
"On a long and lonesome highway, east of omaha.
You can listen to the engine moaning out its one lone song"

Not really about Omaha, but thats as close as it gets..

Oh, and I was born in Kansas City, MO. I don't consider it my home, but there are songs about KC. In particular the song Kansas City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City_(R%26B_song)) most people probably recognize the beatles version.

There arent any... I live in a farming community with 300 people... the closest town to me with a gas station or grocery store is 10 miles away... it has 6000 people, and there's nothing to do... But for anybody that watches Big 10 College Basketball, That Matta (Ohio State) is from my town.

Where The Mountains Of Mourne Sweep Down To The Sea

Oh, Mary, this London's a wonderful sight
With people here working by day and by night
They don't sow potatoes, nor barley nor wheat
But there' gangs of them digging for gold in the streets
At least when I asked them that's what I was told
So I just took a hand at this diggin' for gold
But for all that I found there I might as well be
Where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea.

I believe that when writin' a wish you expressed
As to how the fine ladies in London were dressed
Well, if you believe me, when asked to a ball
Faith, they don't wear no top to their dresses at all.
Oh, I've seen them myself and you could not in trath
Say if they were bound for a ball or a bath
Don't be startin' them fashions now, Mary Macree,
Where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea.

I've seen England's king from the top of a bus
And I've never known him, but he means to know us.
And tho' by the Saxon we once were oppressed,
Still I cheered, God forgive me, I cheered with the rest.
And now that he's visited Erin's green shore
We'll be much better friends than we've been heretofore
When we've got all we want, we're as quiet as can be
Where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea.

You remember young Peter O'Loughlin, of course
Well, now he is here at the head of the force
I met him today, I was crossing the Strand
And he stopped the whole street with a wave of his hand
And there we stood talkin' of days that are gone
While the whole population of London looked on
But for all these great powers he's wishful like me
To be back where the dark Mourne sweeps down to the sea.

There's beautiful girls here, oh, never you mind
With beautiful shapes nature never designed
And lovely complexions all roses and cream
But O'Loughlin remarked with regard to the same
That if at those roses you venture to sip
The colours might all come away on your lip
So I'll wait for the wild rose that's waitin' for me
Where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea.

My old band had a song about our local skatepark but it was more about a few weird kids that went there.

Most of the stuff mentioned in the song applies more to Montreal than the rest of the country especially America Lite (Toronto), so I guess it's counts.

I'm going to Kansas City...Kansas City here I come.

Anyone know that song? It's an old school folky tune. Dunno anything more than that, haha.

Also a bunch of Tech N9ne songs but that's a given since he's from here.

Edit: I think bigwilly got it up there. ^

Also, in Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes he sings 'going to Wichita'. Wichita is a city real close to me. Hmm, this was quite a thought provoking thread...
