so im trying to record a short song but im running into a bit of a problem.

im using adobe audition 3

im recording into the mic input on my laptop (i know, not the best idea), but it sounds like crap, the volume jumps loud and quiet, fuzzes up sometimes, and is totally unpredictable.

audition keeps telling me to use an asio driver so i got asio4all and installed it. i selected the asio for the sound driver and for some reason, the arm for recording button is grayed out.

help please?

Yeah, I meant Line In... I didn't realize you were using a laptop, either.

You see the -> and <- arrow on each track?
Set -> to whatever your soundcard is... mine is "[01S] Soundmax".
Set <- to whatever you are monitoring from... mine is "master"

Once those are set, you should be able to arm the recording button.

No problem.

It's great program, by the way. Just those small things are a bit tedious. I did my acoustic noodling clips using a cheap mic and interface and added some of the 'mastering' parameters... check it out, if you want. I thought it sounded pretty good compared to my old stuff on Audacity, much clearer.

Go to 'edit' menu to "audio hardware setup".

Set the audio driver to ASIO, and do what you just did again.

If that doesn't work, I'm of no more help, sorry

well thats what changes it to asio mode, which sounds better. thanks for all your help though.

anyways, i still cant fix the problem.

the audio just wont play when its set to asio4all for the audio driver.
i have to switch to audition 3.0 sound, which is a major hassle and will get in the way when i want to record tracks over other ones.

anyway, i think i know what the problem is. i thinks its that the asio driver wont recognize the laptop speakers, only things called "HD audio output" and "HD audio headphone", which is odd because they both lead to nothing, unless they somehow both lead to the hdmi output on my computer, which i doubt.

anyways, does anyone know how to make the asio4all driver recognize other audio outputs?
