Some of you said Rolling Stones totally screwed up the 100 greatest Guitarist article.
Personally, I couldn't agree more with them, but some of you were obviously annoyed by the fact that it had John Frusciante, Kurt Cobain, and Jack White on the list while Steve Vai, Petrucci were absent.
I don't blame you.

I bought the magazine last week and read a long article on the 100 greatest singers.
They weren't hand picked by the magazine editors but they asked about 200 artists and music critics to say 20 singers. The one that got the most won so while it can be biased, it's all opinion at the end.

This is the list and how much of this do you agree with?

100 Mary J. Blige

01 Aretha Franklin

I have no argument against the first couple, Aretha Franklin is a damn good singer hearing her sing at the inauguration.
I'm pleased that John Lennon made it no. 5 and Robert Plant as the highest "rock vocalist" on the list.
Though I think it lacks some singers like Jack Bruce, overall a better list.

Kurt Cobain...Jim Morrison...Axl Rose... Wouldn't quite say top 100.

Edit: Bob Dylan Number 7! I don't think he's even top 1000.

Any list of singers without Maynard automatically sucks.

They don't think any of those singers are any of those positions. Magazines and TV shows write Top # lists so you'll get aggravated and talk about it, causing more people to watch/read. It's laziness.

meh, everyone has their opinions
I'd say
1. Ozzy just because his voice is probably the most identifiable
2. Bruce Springsteen
3. Brent Smith
4. Ronnie Van Zandt
5. Melissa Ethridge
6. Eddie Vedder
7. Kevin Martin of Candlebox
8. Elvis
9. Johnny Cash
10. Bon Scott

Bob Dylan is very overrated, his son Jacob Dylan is 100x better at singing than him. Neil Young needs to get the hell of that list as well, no one listens to him 'cause of his voice, they listen for his lyrics and guitar work.

I disagree with 98% of that list.

I don't even know what this list is suppose to be judging..Bob Dylan is an amazing songwriter and lyricist, but he is definately known as being a horrible singer, yet Robert Plant is a legendary frontman, but his lyrics aren't that great imo

Is this judging how good of a singer, how good of a writer, or how good of a frontman they are? The title says "singer", but Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Willie Nelson, and Axl Rose can't sing whatsoever

05 John Lennon
02 Ray Charles
01 Aretha Franklin

those are very good choices IMO.

I second this notion, Cornell is infinity better than Cobain at just about anything, but you have to remember that The Rolling Stone has a love fair and a sickening admiration for Cobain.

I saw Alter Bridge live. You have singers who can't sing and they are awful, then you have singers with too much range and oversing everything, they are just as bad...I put Kennedy in this category, I was beyond annoyed with his voice by the end of their set.

It's a good list. Personally, I have no rejection of Cobain on the list. He's an amazing singer, if not a little short-ranged (Frances Farmer seems to have his widest vocal range over one song).

I'm disappointed at the lack of Amy Lee and Tarja Turunen though
