so my friend has some old epiphone dot and im thinking of buying it off him for $50(US), it's made in japan, bolt-on maple neck, the body, neck, and headstock all have binding thats starting to turn brown.its got some weird open humbuckers ,the pickup selector is on the top right 'horn' i guess, it has small rectangular pearl inlays

but my main concern is the strings are way farther from the neck at the higher frets which makes soloing nearly impossible and the bridge is weird and i dont think it can be lowered more. he said someone gave it to him so they probably ****ed it up

obviously if i buy it it'll need to be fixed up and possibly set up professionally, but for the price its very tempting

When you break a bass string, that snapping sound is the sound of six dollars going down the crapper.

I'd go for it if I were you. Even with some work, it's still a steal, especially if it's Japanese made!

no...someone gave it to him anyway and he gave up on guitar so i got lucky, and apparantly epiphones were made in japan in the 70's and i believe the strings are still stock because they couldn't get any more rusted if soaked them in water

i think your conscience would be better off if he sold it to me instead.

wish the epis still had those inlays.. then id consider buying a dot

you buy guitars based on inlays?, all my guitars just have cheap dot inlays...for now

and i believe its a a casino, but they're all prettymuch the same

i rely on sound as much as i do looks.. i think gibsons r known for "not-dot" inlays..n yes it is a epi but how expensive is it to put in their fake mother of pearls.. probly not much.. while id obviously hav no prob with a fender and its dot inlays.. theres just something about quality and not dot inlays that attracts me

dot studios have no inlays, ironically. i like them.

It's an AE-250? Goddamn, you've got yourself such a steal there, it's untrue. Set that up and it should be a nice guitar.
