so tuesday night i had a home playoff game for our OMHAs.. im talking hockey for those unfamiliar with this...

anyway the palms of my gloves are filled with holes and this of course leaves alot of my hand exposed... dont tell me to fix em i like them like that anyway there was a scramble infront of one of the nets and i had my right (picking) hand stepped on and i was cut all the way down the side of my pinky finger... the cut was down to the bone and maybe 5mms wide so obviously stitches were required, or shouldve been but i didnt want to get them because needles arent something im exactly good with... so i finished the game getting it patched between periods cause it kept bleeding though but when i got home my mom fixed it up with some stereostrips and lots of gauze and tape.. the thing is i have to keep it taped to my ring finger otherwise it will split back open and then ill have to get stitches...

but where am i going with this.. basically i dont want to stop playing guitar so ive been trying to get by and ive found i cant hold a pick the usual way i do.. i hold it with 2 fingers and my thumb but now i can only hold it with my index and thumb..

and...

i seem to pick way way better and im still getting better all the time because im still figuring out how to do it...

so im guessing ive been holding a pick wrong the whole time?

if not then hey ive found a better way to play and if i was then i feel i should be thanking somebody for almost taking my finger off with a skate as it seems to be helping my guitar playing.

and yea thats my story. have a nice day pit

I cut my finger pretty bad with a chisel about 3 months ago and it left me with a super cool scar.

I could never be comfortable using two fingers and a thumb on the pick in the first place. :S

sorry, but were you born a dumbass or did your mom n' dad take turns bashing your head with cinderblocks?

You know that if you image search "pitbulls humping", all that comes up is a myspace a guy made for their dog?

I didn't actually..

yeah, I played with two fingers on the pick 'til I got a guitar with a wiggly stick and needed as many fingers as possible to do all those awesome divebomb maneuvers :-)

Lol yeah you should only use your thumb and pointer finger to pick. Look up the proper way.

haha i probably shouldve when i started playing then i started realising that i dont see anyone hold a pick like i did and i began wondering hmm maybe i should switch but i had no reason to untilnow

So wait, you'd rather risk it getting infected than getting stiches?

i cleaned it out as soon as the game was over and every time i change the bandages which is twice a day i put polysporne on it.. its healing pretty good so i think any risk is gone now

There isn't a proper way to hold a pick.

Check out Steve Morse. He even anchors too!

yeah you were doing it wrong before, its supposed to be just index and thumb, obviously you've never taken lessons or really tried to teach yourself... but anyway after your hand heals, keep picking the way you are now

oh and:
fix your ripped up shitty gloves!!!

or just buy new ones

Weird, i've usually played with two fingers + thumb on the pick, like holding a pen. i'm gona try with just the one see what happens....

no you weren't holding it wrong. i smetimes hold it like that, and i'm never wrong.

I taught myself to play... and holding the pick with pointer finger and thumb always made the most sense to me.
