hey everyone,

finally got my boss gt8 up and running and was hoping to use it for the four cable method.

apparently this method allows the amps gain/distortion through first, but you can use the gt8s effects. now i followed some video online and set it up like this:

Boss Output > Amp efx loop Return
Boss EFX Loop Send > Amp input
Boss EFX Loop Return > Amp Efx loop send

Unfortunately, Im still getting the preamp from the boss gt8. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks!!

Boss EFX Loop Send > Amp input

I don't have this unit, but that's your problem, the effects are still going through the Amp's preamp. Change it so that the pedal output goes to the amp input, and the effects jacks correspond with the ones on the amp

Hey just stumbled across this, I've got a GT-8 pedal and was trying the effect loop for it to get a better sound, well its makes my guitar sound a hell alot better but now i have to turn my amp right up just to be loud enough in the house. The method i found was

1. guitar to GT instrument in
2. GT FX out to amps FX send
3. amp FX return to GT FX in
4. GT out to amp input

so with that ive gone:

1. Guitar into GT-8 Input
2. Output L (mono) to Amp Input
3. GT-8 EXT Loop Send to Amp Send
4. GT-8 EXT Loop Return to Amp Return

Is the right? if i change it so instead of send to send etc to send return i just get a very very loud clean tone with no effects.

Cheers

Both the example you listed and your hookup are wrong.

Guitar -> GT-8 Input
GT-8 Send -> Amp input
Amp loop send -> GT-8 Recv
GT-8 Output -> Amp loop return

You have to turn off the preamp. You cannot put the GT-8's send/recv loop after the GT-8 output, which is what he has in his example.

You could...

Guitar -> Amp in
Amp send -> GT-8 loop recv
GT-8 output -> amp loop return

But that's silly. You couldn't put the compressor, volume, wah, etc... in front of the amp.

Although I don't have the Boss, that's how I have my Line6 M13 setup. I also read the Digitech RP1000 manual when I was shopping for fx units, and they tell you to set it up the same way.
