So I want to double check this. My favorite guitarist - Mark Tremonti did a song in 2005 called Ahavo Rabo Taco Salad. I think it is an amazing instrumental that is great to learn. But I am trying to figure out the scale he uses... I know it is in E... Here is a bit of the tab.

It looks like E phrygian... is this correct?

The lick at the beginning is just E natural minor, but the rest of it appears to use the E phrygian dominant scale.

Edit: See my next post.

I dont see the E minor in the begining lick... well I do but couldnt it just be in the phrygian too since it fits the scale also?

The lick at the beginning looks like its written in E Phrygian Dominant. And the last section of the solo.

EDIT: Now that I think about it... it all looks in E Phrygian Dominant.

I missed the G# tones. Everything but the first lick is E Phrygian Dominant. The first lick contains an F# tone, so it isn't E Phrygian anything. You can look at it many ways, but since the phrygian dominant scale is dark and doesn't sound like you would expect a major scale to sound, I would consider it to be E natural minor.
